Regular lessons for children and adults
We offer surf lessons in Carcavelos, between Lisbon and Cascais, since the year 2000 and we don't intend to stop. We are an accredited surf school and all our teachers are certified by the Federation. Our training is done in a relaxed and familiar atmosphere but we always keep the focus on teaching and an obsession with safety (maximum of 3 students per teacher). These are our regular lessons.

Angel’s Surf School does not offer online booking. But why, you ask? Simply because the ever changing conditions of the waves and tides aren’t always the best for a surf class.
1. Match your availability to the best surf conditions, so you can get the most out of your lesson;
2. Create smaller more homogeneous groups, so you surf with people that are at a level similar to yours, and your teacher has more availability to focus on each individual.
Like such, you should book your class one or two days in advance by phone (+351 962 681 113), email or WhatsApp. You’re always welcome at Angels surf School!
Level 1 | Beginner
Lessons comprise a maximum of 3 students per teacher and for safety and teaching purposes the students who know how to swim may be separated from the ones who don’t or don’t dominate the technique very well. At this level we use soft foam boards.
Target: students over 5 years old without surf contact/experience.
What you learn:
- To know the material/equipment and its characteristics (surfboard, suit, wax and leash)
- Safety rules
- To read and evaluate sea conditions (streams, surfing zones)
- Basic techniques such as: adaptation to the sea, to row, to seat on the board, pass the surf zone and take-off (stand up on the surfboard)
Level 2 | Progression
Technical improvement and surfing manoeuvres lessons aiming to develop the students’ capacity to surf in the Outside on their own.
Target: students over 10 years old willing to evolve technically and improve their physical condition.
What you learn:
- Safety rules & Surfers’ priority rules
- How to get to the outside (beyond the surf zone)
- Different types of waves and how to choose the best ones (reading the sea and beach morphology)
- Several manoeuvres: Duck Diving, Take-off, Drop, Bottom, Cut Back, introduction to the Leading Arm technique, Trimming (generate speed in the face of the wave) and Quick Out.
Level 3 | Advanced
The advanced and pre-competition level lessons grant students the capacity to surf a wave in all its extension performing difficult and interconnected manoeuvres without losing speed and with a successful finishing.
Target: students over 10 years old who want to improve technically, perform difficult manoeuvres and have the option of starting to compete.
What you learn/acquire:
- An improvement training program following a detailed individual analysis of each student needs
- Advanced manoeuvres (learning, evolving and improving)
- Competition rules and formats
- Specific training and physical condition suitable for competition

Progression lessons are great and teachers give us a lot of support. In a short amount of time I was able to eliminate many mistakes and improve my surfing skills. Besides, the lessons are always fun.
